Hi Bruce Gutschmidt KF7NRW here

I just acquired a Tokyo Hy Power HC-1.5KAT, and a Tokyo Hy Power HL-1.5KFX
that have been in a flood and am looking for a complete service manuals.

I would prefer a PDF download

I too may need parts

are replacement parts available ?

and where can I order them ?

Please advise

Thank you

Bruce Gutschmidt

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL parts/service manuals originate from the factory in Japan.. I have
forwarded your request to them..

Hi. Bruce,

We thank you for using our HC-1.5KAT and HL-1.5KFX.

As to the service manuals you requested for, it is to our regret

that we do not have them.
But we have schematic diagrams of those products.

Some replacement parts are still available and you can order from us.

Regards.

well it looks like the first thing on my list that was damaged was the meter.
do you have a list of what replacement parts are available with a price list as there a few boards I wouldn't mind replacing "if the price is rite"
the switches in the LED board are a little corroded and could be replaced as the rotary switches.

the case itself is in pretty poor shape and if it weren't cost prohibitive I would replace that too.

and I must say I am impressed with the build quality

when I do get this working you can bet there will be a favorable EHam.com review

Tomoyuki Hirano

Hi. Bruce,

Regarding the parts, we sell only minor parts for small problem which user
may handle.

Reviewing the pictures, we consider that the damage is so serious
that regular repair should be needed for them to recover the original performance.

Regarding repair of the HL-1.5KFX and HC-1.5KAT, please contact HRO,
our authorized dealer. We do not recommend repair of our products
by other than HRO.

Another option is that you send them to us, THP for overhaul. We
will thoroughly check them and estimate the overhaul cost. However,
the pictures show that the damage is so severe that the cost may not
be low.

Thank you for your understandings.

Best regards.

by HRO you meen Ham Radio Outlet ?
from what I have seen they don't do repairs of this type.
they are a retail store.

and if I were to send it to you are we talking several hundreds of dollars?
can you give me a ballpark amount ?? or high and lo side ??

if it were cost effective I would just send it in.

is it possible a warranty may apply ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi. Bruce,

HRO is Ham Radio Outlet and they contract with AVSL service center,
where our products are repaired. Please contact HRO to proceed the issue.

According to our sales record, the warranty is both expired.

As for the overhaul cost at our factory, it is not possible to quote the cost
without reviewing the HL-1.5KFXand HC-1.5KAT.
If all PCBs and the transformer were damaged, the cost may be close to the
products price at worst.

Best regards.

well Tom it looks like they kicked it back your way

do I need to go through HRO or can I deal directly with you ?

Bruce Gutschmidt

to Tomoyuki
well I guess I will look farther for replacement parts I was hoping to get factory original parts to repair this amplifier.
it is a shame to put a meter in it other than the factory one but if that is my only choice so be it.
wish me luck.

thanks for your time

to me

I’m confused?.. “Kicked it back to me”? I’m not mentioned at all in any of the emails from Japan..

I have no access to parts or repair facilities. My job at THP is simply to help customers setup and operate their equipment, either via emails or on telephone.. I also
instruct customers… If units need to be repaired there are two options>> send it to AVSL>>> www.avsl.net or directly back to Japan. These options have been suggested by Tom
Hirano at the factory in Japan..

here is the deal

I am attempting to repair this unit myself and looking for parts
to this point it looks like THP Japan is unwilling to provide parts after seeing the pictures of my project.
it has been suggested I send the 2 units to you for repairs but after reading your above quote I am still inclined to do the repairs myself.
the most important item on my list is a new OEM meter.

these units were completely submerged in flood water "fresh water not salt water"
all the PCB's look good, the unit has not been powered up sense submerged, and with a good cleaning "in and out", and a few new parts I think it will work again.

your 2 cents would be appreciated

Interesting Phone call today at 12/10/2013 1:26 PST from (757) 227-9954

I think it was Chuck from www.avsl.net who I had emailed concerning parts for my project.
as I was at lunch with a friend I asked if he could correspond by email.
his response was that he did not want a record of what he said as it may be made public 'i.e. this page".
he said they didn't stock parts and that I should "line the garbage can with these units as they were unrepairable".
Then he went into a long story about how led was hygroscopic explaining in detail what hygroscopic meant "as if I needed an English lesson' and how it could never be
stopped. time marches on for us all. after which he started into a story about a house plant left on top of a ts-940
which when watered overflowed making the radio inoperable
and unrepairable.at which point I said I didn't need to be treated like an idiot and if he had more to say he could do it in an email.
I ended the call

Thank you www.avsl.net for your employees opinion but I will march forward with my little project.

I was at my NW 10 meter lunch today, and the guys seemed to be under the opinion that I should make one more attempt to work with the manufacturer of this beautiful piece of
equipment before trying to find after market parts for this project.

in all fairness to the readers of my forum here and forward I want to give you every chance to make another happy user of your equipment.

despite the advise of the technician that called me from AVSL.net I am moving forward with this restoration and it has become clear I will at least need a meter.

Please confirm for me is it your stance that you will NOT sell me parts for this project ?
that is the impression I got from your emails.

if that is indeed the case I will move on without your help and it will be dually noted on my project page.

if you are willing to help Please send me a parts list of what is available and a price list as I will be replacing some switches and a meter before I get to the powering up
stage.

Please keep in mind I am moving forward with or without your help in this.

and I am as capable as anyone to complete this task.

I would prefer to modify these as little as possible.

Thank you for your quick response as I will be moving forward in a timely manner

well it has been a week with no responce guess I am looking for parts on my own.

found a meter on ebay $8 shipped looks like the movement will work "will see when it gets here"
picked up some new power switches $1 each

hopefully there is more to come

here are some IPhone refferance pics

more pictures of the project

And the project marches on
Even with the onset of oxidation of hygroscopic materials
HUMMM what a bought condensation would that render it unrepairable ??
Think on it

here are some pics after soaking the boards in distilled water for 3 days and doing a denatured alcohol bath with a light brush

Check out my trade, sell, and want List

Update 12/23/2013
Today I got the amplifier on the air, and it seems to work properly.
the C-IV icom auto band change works and with 50 watts drive I am getting 500 watts PEP out on 10 meter USB.
the next thing it will need is a new fan it is a little loud as a result of being flooded.
